What's all the negativity with VB?

It seems good to me. Anyway, I haven't been on a Vbulletin forum in years and I'm aware of the problems it has had which, in effect, led to the formation of XenForo at one point.

Back when I was on vb (3.8), there was a change of ownership and thus the new owners changed the way vb would be developed and what features it had.

A lot fo folks got angry about it.

I really didn't care but I just didn't like how version 4 was. I also think there was a big price increase IIRC.

Anyways, I jumped on the XF bandwagon pretty quick and stuck with them.

However, I'm liking VB6. It's growing on me.

How do you feel about the current price? What features do you like about the software? How does it compare to other stuff?

It's not bad for what all you get.

$170ish for a forum, blog system, social group system, and articles? Invision charges $400+ I believe.

XenForo is a little cheaper I think, at least it is for me but I've had my licenses for more than a decade.

Does that include their Resource and Media mods?

I think people just like to pile on something they dislike. To be fair, vB did drop off back when Internet Brands bought them, and some people just regarded it as the next best thing.

I think vB is better now, and the pricing (so far) isn't as eye wateringly expensive as some others.

                I'm definitely liking it.

There are a few things I don't like, though.

On XF, I can just paste a YouTube video link in and it auto-embeds. You have to use a button on the editor on vb to get it to embed, unless I'm doing something wrong.

I think you just have to use BBcode.

Yeah, it's [*video][*/video] without the brackets.

Honestly I don't mind vB but I also wasn't around much to enjoy version 3 either. I've heard the software went downhill once new management took over, but meh. The price is decent for what you get too, I use Woltlab Suite and you have to pay extra to get blogs and a group feature on that software and the group feature is a third party plugin.

I've always wondered how WBB was.

VB 3.X was pretty good software. But now it wouldn't be very modern today. This version ain't bad but I hope they make some improvements to it.

I was part of forums that had used vBulletin 3 and 4, which seemed to be the majority. I remember many switching to Xenforo soon after 4 came out.

I think technical issues arose for those who moved to vBulletin 4, along with those that simply didn't like the look and feel. Once people switched to some other new forum software, it seemed like they never looked back.

This is actually the first time I'm using vBulletin in a while, though I have been away from "foruming" for some time now.

It's the first time running a vBulletin forum for me in at least 10-15 years, maybe more... Can't recall when I used vb3. I'd have to do some checking LOL

But so far, I like it. I just hope they keep making vb6 better. I hope this isn't all that will come from it.

I believe it's because of other great forum softwares like XenForo that really pushed so many people away from VB after some drastic changes their new owner made to the software including with the increased price out from no where. Today, XenForo is the biggest forum software.

XF definitely drove people away from VB. Of course, VB of course sued because it was losing money. It's all about money, both sides.
