    vBulletin Cloud

I've long been a vBulletin loyalist, but there are aspects of the latest version that are becoming increasingly frustrating.

For instance, the registration process still offers users the option to enter their contact info through services like Google Talk, ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, and Skype ID. Google Talk, however, entered hospice in 2015 and shut down entirely in 2022. Yahoo Messenger has been defunct since 2016, ICQ just shuttered this year, and Skype is barely relevant these days. Why these obsolete options persist is baffling. I realize I don’t have insight into their internal operations, but it hardly seems like updating or removing them would be a major lift.

And while I know this might be asking a lot, implementing a Progressive Web App (PWA) option would bring vBulletin up to date. That’s honestly one of Xenforo’s best features.

That said, vBulletin Cloud is half the price of Xenforo, so I'm not up in arms. For now, it’s still the best option for my needs—at least until something better comes along.

Any other opinions from fellow forum nerds?

VB cloud is like SaaS right? You don't get full access?

I mean I get it if that's what works best for you.

But I prefer self-hosting so I "own" my forum if that makes sense.

VB isn't the only one that needs to update stuff.

I think XF also has ICQ and a another outdated one on its profile. I could be wrong. I know a lot of the free software has it to.

That must be a common thing the forum developers forget LOL

That's right, basically SasS. I haven't pulled the trigger on the full VB6 yet. But you're right about self-hosting, that's the way to go.

I like it so far. I like that it's a one-time payment, too!

            DreamHost VPS.

I've actually used them for over 15 years!
