I think it would be cool to chase a tornado, yes it would be very dangerous but to be that close to one has to be thrilling. I say this as someone who lives in tornado ally too, but we've been lucky enough that the big ones haven't hit where I live in a very long time.

I've chased a few in my life time. Chased a storm with rotation but I only saw one short-lived funnel cloud with this system in April:
They always fascinated me when I was younger. But when I was in college at OU, I lived through May 3, 1999. After that, I don't mess with them anymore. We were young and stupid and very lucky to be ok afterward.

I know a lot of storm chasers that came out of OU with meteorology degrees
More people die from automobile accidents than they do from chasing tornadoes, yet we drive every day, knowing how dangerous it is statistically.
I just see it like those who are doing find happiness in it, so why stop? Since there's dangers anywhere, why not have fun while at it? This is the only logical conclusion I have on this.

A lot of storm chasers do it for scientific reasons as well. Some do it to help increase better warning times.
I mainly do it to do local storm spotting for my community. My report means a faster activation of the tornado siren.
