    Would you chase a storm?

Would you (or have you) chase a severe storm?

A tornado? A hurricane? Soemthing else?

    Why or why not?

I think it would be cool to chase a tornado, yes it would be very dangerous but to be that close to one has to be thrilling. I say this as someone who lives in tornado ally too, but we've been lucky enough that the big ones haven't hit where I live in a very long time.

I've chased a few in my life time. Chased a storm with rotation but I only saw one short-lived funnel cloud with this system in April:

They always fascinated me when I was younger. But when I was in college at OU, I lived through May 3, 1999. After that, I don't mess with them anymore. We were young and stupid and very lucky to be ok afterward.

I know a lot of storm chasers that came out of OU with meteorology degrees

I watched them doing that in the movie Twisters. I enjoyed it but I'm never going to do 😂

I've been close to some pretty big ones, one was about a mile wide. It ended being rated an EF-3. We chased it from Nebraska and into Iowa.

You guys have a death wish or something? Why would someone knowingly put themselves in a harm's way all because they want to chase twisters for fun?

Well, here is food for thought.

More people die from automobile accidents than they do from chasing tornadoes, yet we drive every day, knowing how dangerous it is statistically.

I just see it like those who are doing find happiness in it, so why stop? Since there's dangers anywhere, why not have fun while at it? This is the only logical conclusion I have on this.

A lot of storm chasers do it for scientific reasons as well. Some do it to help increase better warning times.

I mainly do it to do local storm spotting for my community. My report means a faster activation of the tornado siren.

I can very much appreciated and understand the need for doing such as a scientific reasons to help keep people out of danger.

Just make sure you're careful out when chasing one.
